The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle
By Stuart Turton
Published by Raven Books
Guest are summoned to Blackheath, a crumbling, isolated mansion for a party that no one seems to want to be at.
What it’s about?
Evelyn Hardcastle, the daughter of the house is killed. Until Aiden, one of the guests, can solve the murder it is destined to happen every day.
Each day Aiden wakes in the body of a different guest, which gives him a different perspective on the day and a new piece to the puzzle.
Wow! This book was so complicated and so clever, I can totally see why so many people have raved about it.
What I think:
It took me a while to put the pieces together myself, but once I got into the style and understood what was happening I loved it.
The different characters that Aiden embodies have completely different personalities and physical characteristics that help or hinder Aiden’s investigation. Not only does he have the murder to solve, he has to find out who he is and why he is at Blackheath.
Aiden has people that help him – but he has to work out who he can trust an who is going to betray him.
This is a time-travelling, Groundhog Day Agatha Christie country house .Murder mystery that will keep you guessing.
I’ve read it as a Bookstagram buddy read and am looking forward to discussing it this weekend with the other readers.
It’s worth mentioning that the American edition of this book is called The Seven 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle – same book but just half a death more.
This is Stuart Turton’s debut novel and I will definitely be grabbing a copy of his new book later this year. This was my last read for January – welcome February 😀
