The Hotel Mix-Up

By Kathy Jay

What it’s about?

Two weddings, three hotel reservations gone awry…and one weekend in Cornwall they’ll never forget!

When the similarities between Ella Swift and Callum Smith’s last names lead to a hotel room mix-up, they find themselves sharing a cramped cottage in Porthkara rather than the private luxury hotel suites they expected.

Each in town for a different wedding – and carrying more baggage than just the suitcases in their hands – the reluctant roommates are forced to share a shelter from the storm surge that sweeps in off the Atlantic. But as the rain crashes down there’s a shift in more than just the atmosphere, and by the time the sun rises on a new day, Ella and Callum’s futures have already been forever changed…

What I think:

This is so readable! Once I started I couldn’t put it down.

The characters are interesting and likeable. Both Ella and Callum are going to friend’s weddings and bringing baggage of their own – and it’s not just their luggage.

With two large wedding booked in the same Cornish village, hotel rooms are at a premium and a new computer system leaves the hotel overbooked. Ella and Callum end up agreeing to stay at a local holiday cottage. When they get there, far from being the cosy retreat they were expecting, it’s wind sweet and the roof is leaking and they are forced to share a room. But talking to a stranger can be cathartic and the attraction between them grows.

But of course, neither of them are ready for a new a relationship and have to find themselves before they can find love.

There’s lots of of pent up attraction, misunderstandings, lack of communication, and the usual romantic comedy moments before they work out what it is they both want and get their happily ever afters.

There’s some fun side characters, and the Cornish backdrop is stunning.

This was a quick read with a great premise.

Thank you to Rachel at Rachel’s Random Resources for inviting me to be a part of this romantic blog tour and to Harper Collins UK for the ARC.
