Prompt: A book that discusses body positivity

with noting on my shelves that fit the bill for this prompt, I turned to wonderful folks in the Goodreads discussion boards who always have loads of suggestions. One of the books that was mentioned was Sweet Temptation by Lucy Diamond which sounded like a good read so that was added to my tbr for 2021.

What I think:

This was a really fun and quick read.

The blurb makes it sound like it is Maddie’s story, but it is actually the story of three women who are all on their own weight loss and body positivity journey.

Maddie is humiliated when the presenter at the radio station she works for signs her up for a weight loss support group. Maddie has to talk publicly about her experiences and the thought fills her with horror. She’s also coping with her elderly and ill mother and looking after children. Maddie realises that she has not made her own health a priority.

Also trying to lose weight is Jess. Her fiancé is stalling in setting a date for the wedding and his comments about her size are getting her down. As Jess gains confidence and starts planning for her future she begins to question whether marriage is what she really wants.

Lauren runs a dating agency but no longer believes in love after the failure of her own relationship. With a thriving business it’s about time that she found happiness of her own.

Despite their differences, they form a fast friendship and help each other overcome their fears and anxieties. They build each other’s confidence and support each other on their journeys.

This is a lovely book about friendship and acceptance. The women face adversity and triumph with humour and grace. It was an easy and fun read.
