Popsugar Reading Challenge 2021 – Book 26

Prompt: A favourite prompt from a past challenge

This is a gift of a prompt! You can read something you fancy and see where it fits, or revisit something you have previously enjoyed. I have done a bit of both. One of my favourite prompts from past challenges was a book with a pink cover and it just happens that next on my Bridgerton binge is When He Was Wicked which is fabulously pink.

What it’s about?

Everything was so much simpler… when he was wicked.

In every life there is a turning point. A moment so tremendous, so sharp and breathtaking, that one knows one’s life will never be the same. For Michael Stirling, London’s most infamous rake, that moment came the first time he laid eyes on Francesca Bridgerton.

After a lifetime of chasing women, of smiling slyly as they chased him, of allowing himself to be caught but never permitting his heart to become engaged, he took one look at Francesca Bridgerton and fell so fast and hard into love it was a wonder he managed to remain standing. Unfortunately for Michael, however, Francesca’s surname was to remain Bridgerton for only a mere thirty-six hours longer—the occasion of their meeting was, lamentably, a supper celebrating her imminent wedding to his cousin.

But that was then… Now Michael is the earl and Francesca is free, but still she thinks of him as nothing other than her dear friend and confidant. Michael dares not speak to her of his love… until one dangerous night, when she steps innocently into his arms, and passion proves stronger than even the most wicked of secrets…

What I think:

The Bridgertons are starting to feel like family!

One of the things I love about this series is the cameos and overlapping with previous books.

Book 6 is Francesca’s story. Marrying for love, Francesca moves up to Scotland. And while she is mentioned in other books, it is merely as a happily married Countess. Tragically, Francesca is widowed and her quest fir happiness and children sheonhs for begins again.

Michael Stirling is another rake woth a reputation. But to Francesca he is a friend, loyal cousin to her husband and now the Earl. He is madly in love with Francesca and has been for years. His feelings are complicated by the fact that she is now available and half the single men of the ton are pursuing her.

As their relationship develops, they both struggle with past loyalties. Michael has to over come the feeling that he is betraying his cousin by stepping into his shoes as Earl and falling his wife, and Francesca has to learn that loving again does not diminish her love for her husband.

This has everything you expect from the Bridgertons – witty dialogue, passionate love scenes and happy endings. A fun read.
