Sunny Days and Sea Breezes
By Carole Matthews
What it’s about?
Jodie Jackson is all at sea, in every sense.
On a ferry bound for the Isle of Wight, she’s leaving her London life, her career, and her husband behind. She’d like a chance to turn back the clocks, but she’ll settle for some peace and quiet on her brother Bill’s beautifully renovated houseboat, Sunny DaysBut from the moment Jodie steps aboard her new home, it’s clear she’ll struggle to keep herself to herself.
Jodie soon delights in her newfound freedom. But out of mind isn’t out of sight, and when her old life comes knocking Jodie is forced to face reality. Will she answer the call or choose a life filled with Sunny Days and Sea Breezes?
What I think:
I could not put this book down! It was so easy to read and I loved the characters and just wanted to keep reading with fingers crossed for a happy ending.
Jodie is such a strong character. Despite the fact that she is clearly heartbroken at the started of the book. She gives hints about what has happened but doesn’t reveal it straight away.
Sunny Breezes sounds so so wonderful! The boat renovations sounds like a dream come true and the Isle of Wight setting is beautiful . It definitely makes you want to pack your bags.
What I really like about this book is the relationship that develops between Jodie and Ned. He is so thoughtful and emotionally intelligent. He gives her support and fun but also respects her space and waits for her to be ready to confide in him. Their love for each other is really natural and the complications in their blossoming relationship are all genuine and do not feel at all contrived.
The star of this book is definitely Marilyn. She is the neighbour that everyone needs. She is an absolute walking Ray of sunshine. I loved her colourful personality and her quirky expressions. I also love the fact that she is a following developed character with a back story of her own.
This is a wonderful summer read. Highly recommended.
