Romancing Mr Bridgerton

What it’s about?

From Goodreads:

Everyone knows that Colin Bridgerton is the most charming man in London. Penelope Featherington has secretly adored her best friend’s brother for…well, it feels like forever. After half a lifetime of watching Colin Bridgerton from afar, she thinks she knows everything about him, until she stumbles across his deepest secret…and fears she doesn’t know him at all.

Colin Bridgerton is tired of being thought nothing but an empty-headed charmer, tired of everyone’s preoccupation with the notorious gossip columnist Lady Whistledown, who can’t seem to publish an edition without mentioning him in the first paragraph. But when Colin returns to London from a trip abroad he discovers nothing in his life is quite the same – especially Penelope Featherington! The girl haunting his dreams. But when he discovers that Penelope has secrets of her own, this elusive bachelor must decide…is she his biggest threat – or his promise of a happy ending?

What I think:

Continuing my Bridgerton binge with book 4 – and this time it is Penelope and Colin’s story.

I think Julia Quinn has a real soft spot for Penelope and she is certainly a fan favourite with viewers of the show.

Penelope is so lovely – she is intelligent and kind and witty. Unfortunately she has long been the joke of the ton with her mother trying too hard to marry off her daughters and her hideous outfits. If Penelope Featherington features in Lady Whistledown it is to be mocked and ridiculed.

Being best friends with Eloise Bridgerton does have some benefits though – and the main one is that it brings her into regular contact with Colin, the object of her desire.

Her crush on Colin goes back years, but the chances of a Bridgerton marrying plain spinster Penelope are slim. Or are they?

Of course Colin and Penelope are made for each other – Colin just has to realise that the girl next door is actually the girl of his dreams. And just what is Lady Whistledown going to make of that?!

This book reveals just how clever and resourceful Penelope really is. There’s no spoilers from me, but some Netflixers will already know as some secrets are revealed far earlier in the show.

I really enjoyed this Bridgerton romance and it has gone to the top of my list. Now on to Eloise…
