What it’s about?

What if your plus one could be the one…?

Cara has officially run out of men. Her most recent dates have gone from bad to worse, and when her dating app informs her there is no one left in her area to choose from, she is at a dead end.

But with a summer of events ahead of her, she needs to find a solution, fast; someone to keep her company at the never-ending weddings, family gatherings and gender reveal parties that she can’t face going to alone.

So when she meets handsome, confident, Millsy on a night out she may be in luck. They could not be more different in personality, but he too has a summer of events ahead and is desperate to get his family off his back about finding a ‘nice girl’. What if they made a pact to help each other out and be a plus one for the summer? Just as friends of course…?

What I think?

This is a really enjoyable fun read.

It’s a rom-com so there are no shockers at the ending, but sometimes a happily ever after is just what you need.

Cara and Millsy hit it off straight away. He helps her find her confidence after a series of shockingly bad internet dating experiences which are truly cringe. They both need dates for a summer filled with parties, weddings and baby showers so being each other’s plus one with no strings attached seems like the perfect arrangement.

Cara expereince is really relatable. Unlike a lot of her school friends, Cara went to university. By the time she had graduated many of her girl friends were settling down and getting married. As they approach 30, single Cara is the odd one out in a group married with children. She has naturally drifted from all friendships with people she no longer has anything in common with.

I loved Cara’s down to earth parents and super-feminist brother. The family dynamics between them all, and the miserable aunt and stuck up cousin are very true to life.

Millsy is the perfect fantasy rom-com boyfriend. Gorgeous, funny and charming. Despite what people think about him, he is also thoughtful and generous and very caring. His relationship with his step-gran is a joy to read.

This is such a lovely, fun read. It’s perfect for sunny days and beach reading. This would make a fantastic movie as there are some great set piece scenes.
