What it’s about?
When Vivien dies she leaves her ice cream shop in Brighton to her granddaughters Anna and Imogen. But the girls have plans of their own. Anna has just brought an apartment and moved in with her boyfriend, and Imogen is in Thailand, diving and working on a marine life photography project. How will an ice cream parlour in need of renovation fit into their lives?
Rather than sell up, the girls decide to give it ago. Imogen stays in Brighton to run the shop, and Anna heads to Italy to learn how to make gourmet gelato with a plan to put Vivien’s firmly on the Brighton foodie map.
What I think:
This is a romantic, fairytale of a book.
Granny Vivien is an absolutely fantasy nan. Everyone loves her, she’s the heart and soul of not only her family, but the local community. She champions good causes, helps people in need and she bakes!
Imogen and Anna face problems along the way as they relaunch their business and their relationships. But the worst that happens to them is a few bad Tripadvisor reviews.
Problems with scheming aunts, disgruntled employees and cheating boyfriends are all easily resolved with no emotional scarring. Success and future happy are assured. Before you know they are taking Vivien’s placebin the local community.
This book is escapism at it’s best. Light and fun, it makes you want to move to the coast and run an ice cream Parlour of your own. Perfect summer holiday reading. And the cover is so pretty and shiny!
