Prompt: A book with a pun in the title
I’ve joined the 2020 Cozy Mystery Challenge Group on Facebook. O love a cozy mystery and lots of them are quick read so perfect reading for when I’m tired and dont have the attention span needed for a longer novel. One of the January reads, Mooved by Murder by CeeCee James, is this perfect fit for the pun prompt
What’s it about?
Chelsea Lawson has agreed to help her best friend Tilly while she has to travel for a work opportunity – she’s looking after her six year old daughter and helping out with the farm animals on her property. What she doesn’t expect is a dead body in the barn.
The small town, which had seemed so friendly just a few days ago is suddenly closing ranks and people are making it very clear that Chelsea isn’t wanted. What secrets are being hidden? And can Chelsea avoid her friend’s eviction?
What I think:
This was a short (just over 200 pages), fun read and the first in the Chelsea Lawton series.
Chelsea is an engaging characters – kind and resilient and totally out of her depth on the farm. Her encounters with the animals are very slapstick laugh-out-loud funny.
The central mystery is interesting and introduces some of the Cedar Falls characters.
The thing I really like about the book is that it ends on a huge cliffhanger which sets Chelsea up with a mystery about her own family to solve.
The second in the series, Farmer in the Dead, is out in February and I’ll definitely be reading it to find out what happens to Chelsea and Tilly next.
