What: Louise Doughty Platform Seven
When: 30th September 2019
September ended with a fantastic book event at The Great Barn in Ruislip hosted by Hillingdon Libraries.
Bestselling writer of Apple Tree Yard, Louise Doughty, came to speak about her latest novel, Platform Seven.
Discussion on the night was wide ranging and included the inspiration behind the book and her own experience of Peterborough Station. It’s not a spoiler to reveal that the book features a ghostly narrator and Louise was candid about the problems this causes for a writer, particularly once you have decided what your ghost can and can’t do, it is important to keep it consistent.
The book deals with issues surrounding gaslighting, coercive control and the different kinds of abuse within relationships that appear happy from the outside and has prompted some incredible responses from readers.
The extracts Louise choose to read from the book were full of tension and suspense, humour and empathy. I can’t wait to read the book. Review to follow.
