Popsugar Reading Challenge 2025 Prompt #22

Prompt #22 –  A book about soccer

This was one of the prompts I wasn’t particularly looking forward to. So I found one of the least footbally football books I could and picked a spicy romance with a bit of football.

What it’s about?

She dominates on the pitch. But he’s the boss in the bedroom.

Miri

I’ve always dreamed of playing professional football, so when the new director of Calverdale Ladies wants to sign me, I should be ecstatic. But renowned billionaire playboy Gabe Rivers doesn’t just want me as his new striker…

I need to get to the top because of my talent on the pitch, not in the sack. So I can’t be another prize for Gabe. Even if he is infuriatingly gorgeous.

Gabe

Do I care that the press have decided I’m a heartless womanizer? Not one bit. I’ve never given up anything I want, and that includes Miri Forster.

She’s the most talented player I’ve ever seen, and sexy as hell. I know I can get her out of my system―I just need one night. And I don’t care what it costs me…

What I think:

I’m not usually a reader of spicy sports romances, although they are on trend at the moment.

This was a quick read – less that 300 pages and extremely readable.

The chapters alternate between Miri and Gabe.

Gabe is a gorgeous playboy billionaire. His father owns Premier League leaders Calverdale United and he is desperate to prove he can take over the running of the club. But before he can do that, he needs to prove himself by having success with the Ladies team.

Miri Forster is a star striker. She has star quality and is a future England player.Gabe is desperate to sign her for the team. But Miri has responsibilities at home and her life is a million miles away from Gabe’s lavish lifestyle.

Opposites attract and there is a lot of chemistry between Miri and Gabe. Miri resists and tries to keep things professional. But a chance encounter ignites a passion that neither of them can ignore.

Spice aside, Gabe and Miri and both really likeable characters. Despite his privilege he is lonely and looking for a genuine connection. Miri’s family are warm and loving, they are supportive and fun.

This was a fun read – not my usual choice, so I doubt I’ll go back to the series, but it was enjoyable and perfect for a dark winter evening.
