Nothing to See Here

By Susan Lewis

What’s it about?

Cristy Ward is the lead producer of Hindsight, a true crime podcast, and she has stumbled across an unresolved triple murder case that will make the perfect next feature.

Sixteen years ago, the police were convinced that they had found their killer. But the case was unexpectedly shut down, it never went to trial and their main suspect walked free.

Will Cristy and her team be able to solve the case, or will they be silenced too…

What I think:

This is the first Susan Lewis book I have read and there was lots to like.

True crime podcasters, Cristy Ward and Connor Church are investigating a dramatic cold case. In 2008, Lexie Gaudion was murdered in her home. The attack was brutal. Her mother and therapist were also killed and her 10 year old daughter disappeared. Husband David was charged with the murders but the case collapsed and no one else has ever been charged.

Cristy and her team start investigating and going back through all the old evidence. They speak to lots of people linked to the case and find themselves blocked at every turn. Soon there are conspiracies and theories, threats and twists.

The podcast investigation is interesting and complex. However, the pace of the book is slowed down by subplots involving Cristy’s ex-husband and his new wife which didn’t really add to the story. This is a very chunky book and some of those sections could definitely have been cut.

I was disappointed with the end which seemed a bit anti-climatic. Admittedly, I didn’t guess where the story was going. I think Cristy’s relationships became more of the focus of the book.

This team of characters could definitely investigate more cold cases in the future.

Thank you to Insta Book Tours for inviting me to be a part of this December Book of the Month Tour, and to Susan Lewis and Harper Collins for my gifted copy of Nothing to See Here.
