52 Book Challenge 2024 Prompt 35

Prompt 35 – Title matches a song lyric

I’ve been working my way through the Bridgerton series and It’s In His Kiss has been in my shelf waiting to be read. It will also get you singing along to the Shoop Shoop Song.

What it’s about?

IF IT’S IN HIS HEART… IT’S IN HIS KISS

MEET OUR HERO…

Gareth St. Clair is in a bind. His father, who detests him, is determined to beggar the St. Clair estates and ruin his inheritance. Gareth’s sole bequest is an old family diary, which may or may not contain the secrets of his past… and the key to his future. The problem is—it’s written in Italian, of which Gareth speaks not a word.

MEET OUR HEROINE…

All the ton agreed: there was no one quite like Hyacinth Bridgerton. She’s fiendishly smart, devilishly outspoken, and according to Gareth, probably best in small doses. But there’s something about her—something charming and vexing—that grabs him and won’t quite let go…

MEET POOR MR. MOZART…

Or don’t. But rest assured, he’s spinning in his grave when Gareth and Hyacinth cross paths at the annual—and annually discordant—Smythe-Smith musicale. To Hyacinth, Gareth’s every word seems a dare, and she offers to translate his diary, even though her Italian is slightly less than perfect. But as they delve into the mysterious text, they discover that the answers they seek lie not in the diary, but in each other… and that there is nothing as simple—or as complicated—as a single, perfect kiss.

What I think:

This is the seventh book in the Bridgerton series and tells the story of the youngest Bridgerton, Hyacinth.

This includes all this things you would expect from the series. There’s lots of balls and parties and a Smith-Smythe musicale to keep everyone busy

I loved Hyacinth. She is intelligent and charming. Her relationship with Lady Banbury is really special and there are some great scenes between the two of them.

I was less fond of love interest, Gareth. He’s your typical rake with hidden depths, but he seems to pursue her for the wrong reasons. As the second son, estranged from his father, he has a lot to prove. Marriage to a Bridgerton would be a change to prove himself. I wished that Gareth would have stood up for himself a bit more as he definitely allowed his father to get to him so much.

I enjoyed the mystery that Gareth and Hyacinth team up to solve which added an extra layer to the story.

Overall, this is a decent, quick read. Not my favourite Bridgerton love story, which was a shame as Hyacinth is a great heroine.
