The Kill List

The Kill List

By Nadine Matheson

What it’s about?

He will come for them, one by one…
Five shocking murders
Twenty-five years ago, DCI Harry Rhimes arrested Andrew Streeter for the brutal murders of five young people. Streeter’s ‘kill list’ of victims was found in his home, and he was convicted of all five crimes.

A legacy under threat
Now, Streeter’s convictions are being overturned, as new evidence implies the original investigation was corrupt. No one is more shocked that DI Henley. Because this case is personal; Rhimes was her old boss, and he’s no longer alive to defend himself. But when the killings start up again, Henley must face the truth: Rhimes got it wrong twenty-five years ago.

A hunt for a killer
Henley and her team reopen the original murder cases, but they must put their personal feelings to one side. Because the real killer is still out there, and he’s working his way through a new kill list . . .

What I think?

This is the third book in the DI Anjelica Henley series and it is another smasher.

The cases come in thick and fast for the Serious Crime Unit. When Andrew Streeter’s murder conviction is overturned and DCI Harry Rhimes is accused of corruption, the team is thrown into chaos. The murders need reinvestigating, and after 25 years, this is not going to be easy. They also need to investigate Rhimes and put their personal feelings for their former leader and mentor aside.

Things are further complicated by the fact that Anjelica Henley was a witness for the original prosecution as one of the murder victims was her childhood best friend. For Henley this case is intensely personal.

I love this series. The crimes are pretty brutal and there are lots of deliciously dark details that are not for the faint hearted, but certainly add to the realism. The investigations are meticulous and every clue is followed even when it leads no where.

For me, the best part of the book is the characters and their dynamics. The investigative team are flawed and complex people. Professionally they compliment each other and are close.

The book sets up a new investigation as Henley has a lot of unanswered questions about Rhines and his death. She also has to sort out her personal life which is falling apart.

I will definitely be reading the next book when it is published. Thank you to NetGalley for the gifted digital copy of The Kill List.
