3 on the 3rd – Festive Fiction

December’s reading list would not be complete without some Christmassy reads to finish the year. I’ve picked three from my tbr to read through the holidays.

My December picks:

The Christmas Book Club by Sarah Morgan

This definitely seems to be one of the Christmas favourites for this year as I’ve seen it all over bookstagram. The cover is gorgeous and it has everything you need for a cosy Christmas read – best friends, a cosy Inn and books.

What it’s about?

A long-lasting friendship
Every year, Erica, Claudia, and Anna reunite for their book club holiday. They’re bonded by years of friendship and a deep love of books, but there is still so much they keep from each other . . .

A perfect Christmas escape
At the cosy Maple Sugar Inn, Hattie specialises in making her guests’ dreams come true, but this Christmas all she wants is to survive the festive season. Between running the inn and being a single mother, Hattie is close to breaking point.

The start of a brand-new story…?
Over the course of an eventful week, Hattie sees that the friends are each carrying around unspoken truths, but nothing prepares her for how deeply her story will become entwined in theirs. Will this Christmas be the end of the book club’s story or the start of a whole new chapter?

Only For the Holidays by Abiola Bello

Have seen some great reviews of this on social media and am looking forward to hosting Abiola Bello at my school’s Lit Fest next Spring. This is described as an ‘enemies to lovers, fake dating romance’ – sounds right up my street.

What it’s about?

City girl Tia Solanke is dreading the festive period. She’s on a break with her boyfriend and the last thing she wants to do is spend Christmas away from London. Arriving at Saiyan Hedge Farm, Tia takes an instant disliking to it. She falls in horse manure, is chased by sheep and the Wi-Fi sucks. How is she meant to stalk her ex now and concoct a foolproof plan to win him back?

Country boy Quincy Parker and his family run the farm, and this year they’ve been selected to host the biggest event in the town’s calendar – the Winter Ball. Preparations are underway, and Quincy is working around the clock to make it a success. The only problem is, he’s told everyone he has a date to the ball, when in reality that couldn’t be further from the truth.

At first, Tia and Quincy don’t see eye to eye, until they realise they both have something to gain by pretending to be a couple. But when a snowstorm threatens to cancel the Winter Ball, their fake relationship is put to the test. Will Tia and Quincy be able to keep up the pretence and save the day, or will real feelings get in the way?

Murder on the Christmas Express by Alexandra Benedict

Balancing out the love and romance this holiday is a good old-fashioned locked-room murder mystery.

What it’s about?

Eighteen passengers. Seven stops. One killer.

In the early hours of Christmas Eve, the sleeper train to the Highlands is derailed, along with the festive plans of its travellers. With the train stuck in snow in the middle of nowhere, a killer stalks its carriages, picking off passengers one by one. Those who sleep on the sleeper train may never wake again.

Can former Met detective Roz Parker find the killer before they kill again?

I have six books left on this year’s Popsugar Reading Challenge so it will be a mad dash to finish those as well!

Happy reading!
